Sergio Aguero told to consider Arsenal transfer as agent issues Mohamed Elneny contract update

Here is your Arsenal morning digest on Wednesday, March 31.

‘Aguero the perfect fit for Arsenal’

Arsenal hero Paul Merson reckons Sergio Aguero would ‘fit right in’ at the Emirates Stadium when the Argentine leaves Manchester City this summer.

After a record-breaking decade at the Etihad Stadium, the 32-year-old will embrace a new challenge next season, while City prepare for life without one of their greatest ever strikers.

Citing the link between former City assistant Mikel Arteta – now of course Arsenal manager – Merson doesn’t see why a move for Aguero, who is nearing the end of his contract, can’t happen.

In his role as a pundit for Sky Sports, Merson said: “Will he stay in England or will his next move be abroad? If he stays in England, I think Arsenal would suit the style he would be looking for. They’d be a good choice.

“Mikel Arteta was at Manchester City and the way Arsenal play – they get around the box and they do create a lot of opportunities. Arsenal do tick that box for Aguero.”

Aubameyang makes Odegaard move claim

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is hoping to be a swaying factor in the future of Martin Odegaard.

As reported by, the Real Madrid playmaker is thought to be keen on extending his stay from the Spanish giants beyond this summer.

That stance comes as welcome news to Arsenal supporters, with one fan asking Aubameyang to make moves to ensure Odegaard remains at the club next season.

In response to a question during his live stream on Twitch, the Gunners’ captain said: “Definitely I will ask him.”

Since moving to Arsenal on loan in the January transfer window, Norway captain Odegaard has scored two goals amid a string of impressive Premier League performances.

Elneny keen to extend Arsenal contract

Mohamed Elneny’s agent says the Arsenal midfielder wants to stay at the club – and talks to extend his contract at the Emirates Stadium are progressing.

According to Alan Nazmy, both parties are keen to come to an agreement on fresh terms beyond summer 2022.

On the back of a season-long loan with Besiktas in 2019/2020, there have been suggestions the Egypt international could return to Turkey on a permanent basis – but that is not his preferred option.

Nazmy said: “The player has a season left on his contract and we are currently working on renewing the contract. The player’s ambitions are to continue [with Arsenal], after earning the confidence of his coach Arteta. This is his first choice.

“There are several offers for Mohamed. In the coming period, things will be decided, whether to accept one of these offers or continue to line up at Arsenal.”
