Serie A Power Rankings: Atalanta and Sassuolo big movers; Napoli and AC Milan neck and neck for top spot

After this full midweek slate of Serie A games, Napoli and AC Milan remain out in front while Atalanta BC and Sassuolo were the big movers in the top half of the rankings. Further down, Salernitana are off the bottom for the first time in a long while.

Our rankings 10 games in.

1. Napoli (-)

The Partenopei made a 3-0 win over bologna look easy as Lucian Spalletti’s men remain a force to be reckoned with at the summit.

2. Milan (-)

Stefano Pioli’s Rossoneri ground out another victory, this time a 1-0 victory over Torino to stay hot on Napoli’s heels.

3. Inter (-)

A 2-0 victory over Empoli keeps Simone Inzaghi’s defending champions within sight of the UEFA Champions League places, but another title is fading fast as Napoli and Milan continue to accelerate.

4. Roma (-)

Jose Mourinho’s men left it late to beat Cagliari 2-1 in Sardinia, but they remain in UCL contention and now have the chance to halt Milan in their tracks.

5. Atalanta (+3)

A 3-1 win over Sampdoria which keeps them upwardly mobile after a mixed start to the season which has not always seen them be this prolific.

6. Lazio (-)

It might have only been a narrow 1-0 win over Fiorentina, but Viola have been an improved side this term and Maurizio Sarri’s men have been inconsistent at inopportune moments.

7. Juventus (-2)

An unexpected 2-1 loss to Sassuolo has set Massimiliano Allegri’s men back after their strong recent run of form and now they need to get back to winning ways against a tricky Verona side.

8. Fiorentina (-1)

Lazio have already claimed a few notable scalps so far this season such as Inter and Roma so there is not too much shame for Vincenzo Italiano in seeing his side go down in the capital.

9. Sassuolo (+5)

Their 2-1 win away at Juve bounces them up significantly in the rankings with Empoli at home another winnable game coming up.

10. Verona (-)

Udinese have been tough to beat at times this season so it was no surprise that this one finished in stalemate between the two, but a wounded Juve could be dangerous for Igor Tudor’s side this weekend.

11. Udinese (-2)

A decent draw against an improving Verona side which keeps Luca Gotti’s men reasonably well-placed ahead of a trough trip to face Inter.

12. Empoli (-)

No answer to a superior Inter side but Empoli will have their eyes on other games as they continue to pick up points which keep them away from danger.

13. Torino (-1)

A narrow loss to AC Milan drops them down a bit but it was a tight affair which could mean that Torino find it easier to get the result against a struggling Sampdoria this weekend.

14. Bologna (-1)

Another heavy loss which is something of a theme when they lose and Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men have lost when conceding three or more four times already this season.

15. Venezia (-)

A controversial 2-1 home loss to Salernitana which has the president up in arms and drags Paolo Zanetti’s men into the relegation dogfight.

16. Sampdoria (-)

Comprehensively beaten by Atalanta over the weekend, Roberto D’Aversa’s men need to improve against Torino, or he could be out of a job.

17. Spezia (-)

The 1-1 draw with Genoa will have been more welcome to Thiago Motta than Davide Ballardini as it keeps their necks above water — just.

18. Salernitana (+2)

Off the bottom after their 2-1 win over Venezia and suddenly looking more competitive in Serie A under Stefano Colantuono.

19. Genoa (-)

Winless now since a 3-2 win away at Cagliari, it figures that there is only one team worse off in the league than the Grifone.

20. Cagliari (-2)

Unlucky to lose out 2-1 to Roma late on but Walter Mazzarri needs to start delivering points and soon.
