Ceballos makes Arteta claim after Gunners exit

Dani Ceballos has heaped praise on Mikel Arteta following his departure from Arsenal.

Ceballos spent two successive seasons on loan at the Gunners from Real Madrid, but has now returned to the Spanish capital.

The Spanish midfielder recently revealed that he wanted to move back to his homeland, so a third campaign on the trot was not an option for either party.

Now, Ceballos has given his verdict on Arteta, who did come under pressure throughout stages of the 2020/21 campaign.

“Arteta is a coach who I am sure will be one of the best in the world in the next few years, but I would like to return to the Spanish league,” he told El Larguero.

Xhaka closes in on Roma transfer

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is close to moving to AS Roma on a permanent deal, football.london understands.

Xhaka looks set to link up with Jose Mourinho in the Italian capital as the Gunners prepare for a big squad overhaul this summer.

Since arriving at the Emirates Stadium in 2016, the Switzerland midfielder has made more than 200 appearances for the north London club – establishing himself as a staple under Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery and Arteta.

Now, his five-year affiliation with Arsenal is set to come to an end very soon.

Blades chief issues message on Berge’s future

Sheffield United chief executive Stephen Bettis is adamant the club will keep hold of Sander Berge this summer, despite interest from Arsenal.

football.london understands the Gunners are looking at Berge and that the Blades midfielder is keen on a Premier League return following relegation with the Yorkshire-based club.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Sheffield United chief Bettis insisted he did not want any of his star players to leave after falling back down to the Championship.

He said: “That’s what parachute payments are there for, to help with that hangover.

“All of our players have relegation clauses in their contracts. That puts us in a stronger position financially.

“We don’t want any of our players to leave, simple as that. We just want to strengthen.

“There has to be sustainability, it’s not boom or bust. But Slav does have the ability to bring players in this window and he knows that.”
