Hello and welcome to live coverage of Chelsea’s Premier League visit to Southampton on the south coast as Thomas Tuchel targets a fifth straight victory in the top flight.
Tuchel could make it six wins on the spin in all competitions if he collects another three points this lunchtime as the Blues have marched their way into the top four of the league following Frank Lampard’s sacking.
Tuchel comes up against another former Bundesliga boss in Ralph Hasenhuttl this afternoon after the duo managed against each other with RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
The Blues could consolidate their place in the top four of the Premier League with victory, for a few hours at least, and move to within a point of Leicester City in third. Saints meanwhile will be looking to arrest a horrendous run of form that has seen them lose their last six games on spin.
Chelsea will not risk Thiago Silva for the game on Saturday despite his return to training in midweek having recovered from a thigh injury. Christian Pulisic is flagged as a doubt for the game as well with a calf issue sustained in training on Thursday.
Tuchel didn’t rule out Pulisic but did admit there is a “big question mark” over his involvement. Tammy Abraham was back in training on Friday after an ankle problem he picked up in the win over Newcastle but is unlikely to start at St Mary’s.
Kai Havertz is back in contention though after missing the last two weeks with an injury that neither Chelsea nor Tuchel gave too much away over the course of the last 14 days what the issue was.
For Southampton, they are without Kyle Walker-Peters, Thoe Walcott and Ibarahim Diallo for the game on the south coast as they battle a long-list of absences, as they have done for most of the season.
We will have all the build up to the early weekend kick off right here on our live blog, as well as all the match action and post-match reaction from Tuchel after the match finishes later today.
So don’t go anywhere, we have got you covered for the next few hours with our Chelsea reporters Sam Inkersole and Adam Newson.
