Spurs fans were left amused as Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings was allegedly left outside Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium after the game.
The defender was spotted following the team’s 2-1 defeat waiting in the stadium car park on the phone and pointing.
Rumours circulated on social media that Mings had ‘missed the team bus’ and that it had departed without the central defender on board – which led supporters making light of the situation.
But other fans responded that he was likely to be on his way to England’s St George’s Park training base ahead of the upcoming international break, though they were quick to point out that other international teammates were nowhere to be seen.
Mings played the full 90 minutes as Watkins cancelled out Pierre Hojbjerg’s opener.
Matt Targett’s own goal with 20 minutes remaining saw Spurs pick up their first Premier League win in three games.
Spurs had lost their last three Premier League games by an aggregate of 9-1 and the pressure was beginning to grow on Nuno Espirito Santo following a dismal performance in last week’s north London derby defeat by Arsenal.
But Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s strike and an own goal by Matt Targett got the job done as Spurs go into the international break on a positive note.
Villa were outplayed but found themselves level with 22 minutes remaining as Ollie Watkins scored his first goal of the season, only for the hosts to regain their lead three minutes later.
