Steven Gerrard’s six-word verdict that will delight Arsenal fans after Slavia Prague win

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has gushed over Arsenal’s win against Slavia Prague on Thursday night.

The Gunners booked their spot in the Europa League semi-finals with a brilliant away performance against Slavia, winning 4-0 on the night and 5-1 on aggregate.

Second leg goals from Nicolas Pepe, Bukayo Saka and a brace from Alexandre Lacazette wrapped up an excellent win for Mikel Arteta‘s men and one of the performances of the season so far.

And a former rival of Arsenal’s in ex-Liverpool midfielder Gerrard agrees, raving about the Gunners’ latest display having seen his side fall out of the Europa League at the hands of Slavia in the last round.

“I loved everything about Arsenal’s performance,” Gerrard said.

He added: “I admired their approach before the game, during the game and after it.

“The way players and manager spoke and then to back it up with that performance.”

That will be music to the ears of Gunners fans whose patience, and indeed their faith in Mikel Arteta’s project, will have been tested this season at times.

The same can probably be said of the Arsenal board, but clearly other managers can see what Arteta is trying to achieve, and there are signs it might be paying off, albeit Premier League form hasn’t exactly been inspiring.

The Premier League form is why Arsenal find themselves likely needing to win the Europa League to qualify for Europe ahead of next season, and a former boss stands in their way.

Unai Emery and his Villarreal await the Gunners in the next round with the first leg at Estadio de la Ceramica on April 29 and the second at the Emirates Stadium on May 6.
