Arsenal technical director Edu had an extremely busy summer transfer window.

The Brazilian offloaded a number of fringe players, with the likes of Matteo Guendouzi, Willian and Joe Willock all leaving the club.

The Gunners were also extremely active when it came to incomings, adding six players for a combined £140million as Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Martin Odegaard all signed long-term deals at the Emirates Stadium.

Given all of their signings were 23 or under at the time of joining, it was clear that Arsenal are planning to build a youthful squad consisting of several high-potential youngsters that can develop with the help of head coach Mikel Arteta.

However, the north London outfit were also linked with veteran defender Sergio Ramos during the summer, with Goal claiming that the Spanish centre-half rejected a contract offer worth £280,000-a-week from the Gunners before joining French giants Paris Saint-Germain instead.

The report claimed that Arsenal offered him a two-year deal, meaning he would have cost around £30million across two seasons at the Emirates.

Still, things haven’t gone to plan for the former Real Madrid star since joining the Ligue 1 leaders as he is yet to make a single appearance for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Now, Le Parisien have claimed that PSG could terminate the 35-year-old’s contract given his recent injury struggles that have seen him play just six times in 2021.

The recent reports will be leaving Arsenal extremely thankful that the Spaniard turned down the chance to move to north London, especially considering centre-backs White and Gabriel have found their feet in recent weeks.

The defensive duo have avoided defeat in each of their last seven league fixtures, conceding just four times in the process.
