The Arsenal players you must not pick for Fantasy Premier League Matchweek 8

With the Premier League returning for Arsenal this weekend, some supporters may be turning their attention to their all-important Fantasy Premier League teams.

The Gunners are in action against Crystal Palace on Monday evening, and a number of Mikel Arteta’s current squad could well be excellent options to scoop up some much-needed late points.

However, there may well be a few not in action, and thus would be a waste of investment for any fledgling managers.

With that in mind, football.london takes a look at which Arsenal players might be best avoided this weekend.

Bernd Leno

The German stopper has lost his place as the Gunners’ undisputed number one to Aaron Ramsdale – the 23-year-old having impressed since his arrival from Sheffield United.

As a result, Leno has not played a minute of Premier League action since the 5-0 thumping at the hands of Manchester City and that appears unlikely to change against the Eagles at the Emirates Stadium.

Alexandre Lacazette

Another to have seen his opportunities dry up in recent times, it appears somewhat unlikely that Lacazette will receive a start on Monday.

After all, the Frenchman has only made two appearances in the Premier League so far this season – both of those being short cameos from the bench.

Priced at a somewhat expensive £8.3m – more than the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Michail Antonio and Neal Maupay – there are surely better options out there than the 30-year-old Frenchman.

Gabriel Martinelli

Much like his attacking colleague, Martinelli has been starved of opportunities to impress over the last few weeks.

After starting the opening two games of the season against Brentford and Chelsea, Martinelli has been named as an unused substitute in the last five Premier League matches.

It remains to be seen whether he can end that run against Palace, but Arteta is doubtful having confirmed that the Brazilian has picked up a minor injury ahead of the clash.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Spaniard said: “Unfortunately, he got injured last week. It’s a minor injury. We don’t know if he’s going to be available for Monday.”

Granit Xhaka

Should Martinelli be ruled out with a problem, he would join Granit Xhaka on the sidelines for Arsenal.

The Swiss midfielder has been ruled out since sustaining a knee injury against Tottenham last month, with him not expected to return until at least Christmas time.

It would certainly be wise for those who have not already sold Xhaka by now to do so ahead of the weekend.
