Tottenham’s search for Jose Mourinho’s successor is continuing after failing in their bid to land Antonio Conte.
Spurs have been in discussions with the Italian boss in recent days as they look to secure a long-term replacement for Mourinho ahead of next season.
But despite the fact that promising talks had been held, it is understood that Tottenham are now set to move on to other options.
This comes amid reports from Sky Italy that claim Conte had ‘major doubts’ about taking over at Spurs and that he was ‘inclined’ to turn down the north London club because he was said to be not convinced that Spurs are ready to win a trophy.
However, football.london understands Spurs and Conte had held positive talks and that it is very unlikely the Italian only discovered the club were not in a position to spend a large amount on transfer late in the day.
It is likely that Conte would have wanted assurances, given his proven record, and it is no secret that Tottenham are unable to commit to any sort of big spending unless Harry Kane departs or the naming rights for the stadium are sold.
Though, there is some positive news in that Fabio Paratici is set to join the club regardless of whether Conte arrives, and football.london understands he has already begun planning sales and potential transfer targets.
Paratici and the former Inter Milan boss are close friends, having both spent time at Juventus in the past.

But the end of talks with Conte comes as a major setback for Spurs ahead of the European Championships as the 2021/22 season edges closer, leaving Tottenham to search for alternatives.
Tottenham have already been forced to cool their interest in Mauricio Pochettino after PSG made it clear they would not lose the Argentine ahead of next season.
In addition, Spurs have seen Julian Nagelsmann join Bayern Munich and Ajax boss Erik ten Haag sign a new deal with the Dutch side, while Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has distanced himself from the vacancy.
