Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku and Mason Mount: Chelsea injury news ahead of Malmo clash

It’s match day! Chelsea are in action this evening as they take on Malmo in the Champions League as the Blues look to take another step to progressing from the group stage.

Chelsea come into the clash in Sweden fresh off the back of another victory, with the Blues beating Newcastle United 3-0 at St. James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

Thomas Tuchel‘s team currently sit in second-place in Group H, with only Juventus having a better record than the reigning Champions League holders.

Tuchel spoke to the press on Monday afternoon, with the Chelsea boss providing updates on some of his injured players, and football.london has all the latest below.

Mason Mount, Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku and Mateo Kovacic

Tuchel was asked about the Chelsea quartet in one question in Monday’s press conference and the German coach confirmed they will all be sidelined for the trip to Sweden.

Mount was a late absentee for the weekend’s game, with the England international feeling ill, while Kovacic picked up a hamstring problem in the Blues’ recent win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

Werner and Lukaku both limped off in Chelsea’s win against Malmo last month at Stamford Bridge and will both be missing for the return fixture.

Tuchel said: “Yes, these players are all still out. For Timo, Romelu and Kova no surprise. For Mason, he does not feel better. To stop any speculation, it’s not Covid.

“He’s negative for Covid. He’s just ill and doesn’t feel good enough to take part in training or make the trip to Malmo.”

Christian Pulisic

Pulisic is finally set to be involved for Chelsea this evening, with the USA international missing most of the season so far through an injury he picked up while representing his country.

A start may come too soon for the Blues winger, but Tuchel will be determined to give him some time on the pitch as he looks to make a full recovery.

Speaking in his pre-Malmo press conference on Monday, the Chelsea boss confirmed the good news, with Pulisic set to make a return to action.

What Tuchel has said: “The good news is that Christian Pulisic is back and back in the squad for tomorrow.”

Expected return date: Malmo (A), November 2

We are expecting to hear the final team news for the Malmo clash, which is the early kick-off today, at around 4:45pm this afternoon and you can find that out right here on football.london.
