New Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo is set for a busy summer transfer window.
Fresh from a near three-month wait for a Jose Mourinho replacement, Spurs are desperate to get back in the Premier League’s top four next season, something they have failed to manage in each of the last two seasons.
Tottenham have aspirations to improve their squad, trim the overpaid deadwood and also keep hold of star striker Harry Kane – who has been the subject of interest from current league champions Manchester City in recent weeks.
Holding onto the 27-year-old will perhaps be Espirito Santo’s most important task this summer as the Portuguese coach will hope to still have Spurs’ no. 10 leading the line in N17 when the window slams shut on August 31.
A sure-fire way of keeping hold of Kane would be to strengthen the team around him and perhaps ease his creative burden so he doesn’t have to constantly drop deep to progress the ball up the pitch.
Given Argentine international Giovani Lo Celso has struggled to constantly perform in a Tottenham shirt since joining from Real Betis in the summer of 2019, the club may look to sign another playmaker who can help link midfield to attack and provide constant chance creation for Kane and Son Heung-min.
And the north Londoners could fill this position, whilst also getting one up on local rivals Arsenal, by signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar – who the Gunners have been actively chasing since last summer.
French outlet Le 10 Sport claims that Spurs may try and do exactly that as they have reportedly joined the race to sign the talented 23-year-old, a move which would surely infuriate Arsenal supporters.

The Lilywhites have seemingly already beaten their rivals to a mutual transfer target this summer as football.london understands they are keen to wrap up a deal for Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, who reportedly has garnered interest from Mikel Arteta.
While no deal has been agreed for the versatile Japanese international as of yet, his preference of Spurs over Arsenal will surely give new Director of Football Fabio Paratici confidence that he could persuade Aouar to make the same choice this summer.
The Frenchman would be a fantastic addition to any side, registering seven goals and three assists in Ligue 1 last season, as well as averaging a whopping 4.65 shot-creating actions per game, more than any Spurs player managed last term.
