Tottenham could repeat Kyle Walker transfer trick to develop youngster into world-class talent

Tottenham could be set to repeat their transfer masterstroke that helped their former fullback Kyle Walker become an elite-level fullback.

The English defender was sent on loan to Championship side Queens Park Rangers back in 2010 before enjoying another loan stint with Premier League outfit Aston Villa just a few months later.

Walker’s temporary moves helped him develop into a Premier League-level defender before establishing himself as one of the best right-backs in the country when he returned to the north London club.

Spurs‘ footballing director could repeat this transfer strategy with young midfielder Oliver Skipp, who has garnered considerable interest from several clubs in the English top-flight, according to a report from The Athletic.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan with Norwich City, featuring 45 times in the league to help guide the Canaries to the Championship title.

The aforementioned report claimed that Tottenham currently would prefer to keep Skipp at the club this season but may opt to send him out on loan if they sign additional midfield reinforcements in the transfer market.

If Skipp was sent on loan to a Premier League club then he would be enjoying a similar fate to Walker, who greatly benefited from temporary spells in both of England’s top two leagues.

The Englishman has admitted he has loved being back in the team after impressing for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side during pre-season in wins against MK Dons and Colchester in recent days.

“I loved every minute of it at Colchester, just to get back out there and get that feeling of playing back into my legs, nothing beats playing football,” he told Tottenham’s official website.

“It’s nice after I’d put the hard work in over the summer to get back and play football again. I’m really excited.

“I was only out for 10, 11 weeks, but it felt like they were the longest weeks of my life!

“I didn’t even miss that much football, so I can only imagine how it would feel during the season!”
