Tottenham Hotspur could have been handed a considerable boost in their hopes of keeping Harry Kane at the club this summer.
The Spurs striker has already made clear his desire to depart north London following a hugely disappointing 2020/21 for the club in which they finished outside of the Champions League places.
Almost immediately, Kane was linked with a departure to Manchester City and reports in June suggested that the reigning Premier League champions had in fact lodged a £100m bid in an effort to secure his services.
The offer was apparently rebuffed and football.london understands that Daniel Levy is determined to hold onto his star striker.
The Spurs chairman’s task might just have been made easier if reports from France are to be believed.
According to footmercato, Manchester City have contacted Barcelona regarding the future of Antoine Griezmann, with Pep Guardiola even going out of his way to phone the French striker.
He is apparently seen as a viable alternative to Kane and should City lodge a suitable offer then Barcelona would be willing to cash in due to their troublesome financial difficulties.

Should Manchester City secure Griezmann, then it would be unlikely that they would then pursue a move for Spurs’ Kane, who still has three years left on his contract in north London.
Guardiola’s men would initially be unable to afford Kane should they secure Griezmann’s signature, whilst they would also be unlikely to fit both into their current system, with the Spaniard preferring a single-striker set-up.
Whilst Griezmann is capable of playing out wide, there is already a wealth of wide men at the Etihad Stadium including Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, Ferran Torres and Phil Foden.
