Former Tottenham defender Ramon Vega has urged his old club to offer Hugo Lloris a new contract.

Lloris enjoyed a stellar display for France in the UEFA Nations League final on Sunday night, registering three high-quality saves as Didier Deschamps’ side defeated Spain 2-1.

After the full-time whistle, Vega, who spent four years at Spurs, took to social media, tweeting the Lillywhites advice regarding the French keeper.

His tweet read: “@SpursOfficial don’t wait to extend Hugo’s contract just do it !!!! Privilege to have such a good goal keeper at the club.”

The 34-year-old’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the current campaign, meaning he could leave N17 for free next summer, ten years after joining from Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.

Lloris has since made a whopping 380 appearances for the north Londoners, registering 129 clean sheets in the process, incredibly impressive numbers considering he cost the club just £11.3million back in 2012.

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson claimed last month that the French international is extremely underrated, citing his World Cup-winning medal as evidence of his undeniable quality.

“He’s a World Cup winner,” Merson told 90min Football when he and former Spurs ace, Jamie O’Hara, were asked to make a combined XI out of the two North London Derby sides, with Lloris making the cut.

“I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves, I think he’s very underrated.

“They don’t talk about him in the same bracket as Ederson, or Alisson, but for me, I think he is a top goalie and he makes big saves.”

Lloris has registered a whopping 134 caps for his country, with former Juventus defender Lilian Thuram the only player to have featured more times (142) for Les Blues.
