Villarreal vs Arsenal prediction: Martinelli can make case in Arteta’s plans

Arsenal are close to another European final but they will have to get past the manager who guided them to their last one.

The Gunners are 19/10 to take the lead in the first leg while Villarreal are favourites at 6/4 and a draw is 12/5.

It will be the first time Arsenal face Unai emery since he was sacked and replace by current boss Mikel Arteta which has all the ingredients for a mouth-watering tie with no doubt a few people looking to see if Emery will get one over his previous employers.

Arteta, meanwhile, knows his sides hopes of any European football next season rests on lifting the Europa League trophy this season.

His side are nine points behind a Europa League spot in the Premier League and currently sit 10th in the table so Europa League is their only chance of Champions League football next season.

Tips

  • Gabriel Martinelli to score anytime – 9/4
  • Over 2.5 goals – 10/11

Now, Villarreal have been superb at home in this season’s Europa League campaign while Arsenal’s best performances have come on the road so a lively first leg can be expected here.

It will be a test of how clinical both sets of attackers are but we can expect goals in this tie too which is why I’m backing over 2.5 goals at 10/11.

Now I know there is a chacne for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette to make a return but I feel Gabriel Martinelli has a chacne to really make a mark in this game.

While Arteta has favoured Eddie Nketiah over the Brazillian striker, the 19-year-old has plenty to offer in the final third to give Villarreal a headache over 90 minutes – he’s 9/4 to score anytime.
