What Dusan Vlahovic did on Juventus debut after Arsenal failed to land £66m transfer target

Dusan Vlahovic took around 13 minutes to announce himself properly as a Juventus player after he found the back of the net in style against Hellas Verona.

The 22-year-old striker was a top target for Arsenal over the January transfer window, but snubbed the Gunners in favour of a £66million move to Juve.

Vlahovic has emerged as one of European football’s top talents this season, with a prolific record of 18 goals in 22 Serie A matches so far this term, with his first for Juventus coming very early on against Verona.

Paulo Dybala played a fine lifted through ball to the Serbia international and with the Verona goalkeeper rushing out of his goal, the Juve striker placed a lobbed effort into the bottom corner on his left foot.

It was a reminder, if needed, to Arsenal supporters about the sort of player the club missed out on last month.

In the second-half, someone else the Gunners were said to be interested in, Denis Zakaria, doubled Juventus’ advantage in the Serie A clash.

What next for Arsenal?

There are other options for Arsenal despite missing out on Vlahovic, with football.london understanding that Alexander Isak is a target for the Gunners.

The Real Sociedad has a £75m release clause – a figure the north London club were not interested in triggering last month – in his contract with the Spanish outfit.

However, Arsenal could re-visit the situation in the summer transfer window and will have perhaps been alerted by the striker’s comments recently.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Isak striker said: “I am not talking about other clubs. I am a Real player, I work here and this is my club. My work is on the pitch, and as I told you before, there are other people who work outside.”

Asked if he will stay at Sociedad, the Swede replied: “You can never be sure of anything.

“As I always say, you never know what can happen in football but in the end I’m here, happy, and nothing more.”
