What ex-Arsenal star Jack Wilshere has said after completing Aarhus transfer on short-term deal

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been expressing his gratitude to Aarhus after agreeing a short-term deal with the Danish outfit.

The 30-year-old finally sealed a move over the weekend as he joined the Superliga outfit on a contract until the end of the season, finally ending his long wait for employment following his release by Bournemouth at the end of last term.

Since then, he has been training with the Gunners in an effort to keep up his fitness but now moves to Aarhus on a deal that runs until the end of the season – albeit with an option to extend.

Speaking after his switch was confirmed, Wilshere said: “I am at a point in my career where I need to get started again after a difficult period.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity AGF has offered me and I will do everything I can to help the team move forward. I am very much looking forward to contributing to the team.”

Wilshere also took to Instagram after the announcement of his arrival as he wrote: “Can’t wait to get started @agffodbold

“Thanks to the fans for the warm welcome. New chapter let’s go.”

Elsewhere, the club’s sports director Stig Inge Bjornebye has been hailing the midfielder’s arrival in Scandinavia.

He said: “He [Wilshere] is in good physical shape, but of course lacks some match fitness. It will probably come, and we look forward to seeing him in the white jersey.”

It goes without saying that Wilshere will certainly be aiming to have an impact for Aarhus between now and the end of the campaign.

His new side currently sit seventh in the standings and are four points off the pace to reach the end-of-season championship round for the league title.

They are also a considerable 12 points behind current league leaders FC Copenhagen and would enter the relegation round should they fail to lift themselves any higher in the table between now and the end of the regular campaign.
