Arsenal trio Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe are all on the bench for England’s clash with Albania tonight – news that hasn’t gone down well with Gunners fans.
Arsenal’s Hale End graduates Saka and Smith Rowe have been called-up to England together for the first-time in their senior careers.
After impressing at Euro 2020, Saka is now a regular in Gareth Southgate’s squad but Smith Rowe is yet to make his senior debut for the Three Lions.
The Gunners’ new No.10 is enjoying an electric run of form at the moment and his performances earned him a late call-up to the squad after several stars did not report for international duty.
Smith Rowe could be handed his debut from the bench, but the same situation looks unlikely for his Arsenal and now England teammate, Ramsdale.
The Gunners’ new goalkeeper was part of England’s Euro 2020 squad but didn’t play a game in the run to the final.
However, he has been a revelation since arriving at the Emirates and his performances have led to him being selected for the Three Lions’ last two international camps.
Nevertheless, he still hasn’t made his senior debut for England and unless Jordan Pickford is forced to withdraw from the contest through injury or red card, it looks as though he’ll have to be patient once more.
Although Arsenal fans were happy that their stars made the squad, they’re less enthused by Southgate’s decision to keep them on the bench for a game they should win on paper.
Take a look at what’s been said on Twitter.
Even though there are doubts over his selection, Southgate will be looking to get the job done against Albania.
Plus, there’s no reason for Arsenal fans to be too disheartened just yet, as the three could feature from the start against San Marino on Monday night.
