What Michael Zorc said about Erling Haaland’s future as Man Utd complete Jadon Sancho transfer

Borussia Dortmund director Michael Zorc has confirmed that winger Jadon Sancho will soon officially become a Manchester United player.

The talented youngster, who left Manchester City join Dortmund back in 2017, has sealed a return to England to join City’s cross-city rivals in a £73million deal.

United confirmed that they had reached an agreement with Dortmund to finally secure Sancho’s signature on July 1, with all that is now left to be done being nothing more than his official unveiling as a United player.

Zorc said: “Sancho deal is done. Everything is settled and processed.”

Therefore, Dortmund are now very close to securing themselves a tidy £73million windfall from the sale of the England international, who will be looking to prove his worth in the Premier League ahead of next year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Although the German heavyweights have always been keen to retain Sancho’s services, even when United were knocking on the door continuously last summer to get a deal over the line, they always knew it was likely that an offer would be presented that would be too good to knock back.

So much so, Dortmund chief Zorc revealed back in May that the club always had a “gentleman’s agreement” in place with Sancho that would allow him to leave the German outfit if the right offer was made. Whilst that has proven to be of great benefit for United to get a deal over the line, Dortmund do not have such an agreement in place with Erling Haaland, as Chelsea continue to circle for his signature.

Chelsea are desperate to land the Norway international this summer to bolster Thomas Tuchel’s attacking options, but the German club are reluctant to let go of the Leeds-born striker, even though they are certain to secure a higher transfer fee for him this summer than they would in 12 months time because of the release clause within his contract.

“We already had a gentlemen’s agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions,” Zorc told ARD, as cited by AS.

“He’s been with us for a couple of years. However, this agreement does not exist with Erling.”

Chelsea are expected to be willing to pay well over £100million to try and lure the striker to Stamford Bridge, but even a fee of that size may not be good enough.

Considering that Dortmund are now poised to claim more than £70million for Sancho, they will not have as much weight pressing on their shoulders to sell Haaland in a financial sense.

Chelsea remain determined to get a deal done, but they are poised to face a much tougher challenge than what United had to overcome when winning the race for Sancho.
