Arsenal are set for an extremely busy summer as they look to bridge the gap between them and the rest of their big six rivals.
The Gunners finished in eighth place in last season’s Premier League, six points behind London rivals Chelsea in fourth – who also lifted their second-ever UEFA Champions League after defeating Manchester City in the final.
football.london understands that manager Mikel Arteta and chief executive Edu Gaspar are looking to add a minimum of five players this summer, with a centre-back, two fullbacks and two midfielders all reportedly on their transfer shortlist.
Given former-loanee Martin Odegaard has returned to his parent club Real Madrid, Arsenal are keen to add a creative midfielder to the mix.
They have been linked with Leicester midfielder James Maddison as well as Lyon’s Houssem Aouar in recent weeks and it is the latter that ESPN claims they are considering making an offer for in the coming weeks.
The Frenchman registered seven goals and three assists in Ligue 1 last season and some reports claim that he could be available for just £20million – a more than reasonable price considering Lyon wanted more than double that sum for him last summer and Transfermark still value him at £37.8million.
However, the Gunners will first have to sell before they can buy – with Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira both likely to depart the Emirates this summer.
Xhaka is nearing an exit to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma with the Swiss captain believed to have agreed on personal terms with the Italian giants for a fee that could be up to £18million.
The summer window is officially open, and it’s going to be tough to keep up with the comings and goings in and out of the Emirates.

Meanwhile, Torreira has fallen out of favour under Arteta and a number of Serie A sides, including Lazio, are thought to be interested in the Uruguayan, who spent last season on loan with Atletico Madrid.
The North London side have already announced that French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi will spend next season on loan with Marseille, who will have an option to buy the 22-year-old next summer.
