Tottenham Arsenal are hoping to progress to the Europa League Round of 16 on Wednesday and Thursday respectively, but when is the draw for the next round?
Spurs play the second of their Round of 32 ties with Wolfsberger on Wednesday night knowing they are all-but assured a spot in the next round having won 4-1 away from home in the first leg.
But Arsenal‘s case is a little more complicated with the Gunners currently drawing 1-1 on aggregate ahead of the second leg in Athens on Thursday.
Mikel Arteta‘s men do have an away goal in their pocket, but they face another stern test as they look to progress to the Round of 16.
But If they, and most likely Spurs, will await the draw for the next round, but when does it take place? And what are the rules?
When is the draw?
The Europa League Round of 16 draw will take place just one day after the remaining Round of 32 ties are played.
The draw takes place on Friday, February 26 at 12pm, UK time, or at least that’s when things get up and running.
It will take place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.
What are the rules?
There are none.
There are no seeding or country protection rules for the Round of 16 onwards, meaning anyone can draw anyone unless there are any political reasons teams from different countries cannot play.
Those stipulations will be disclosed before the draw after Thursday’s ties have been played.
But, in the case of Arsenal or Spurs, they will be able to draw each other or anyone else at this stage of the competition.
Who will be in the draw?
We don’t know just yet which teams will be in the draw, but here are the possibilities from the Round of 32 ties to give you some idea.
Wolfsberg or Tottenham
Dynamo Kyiv or Club Brugge
Real Sociedad or Manchester United
Benfica or Arsenal
Crvena zvezda or AC Milan
Antwerp or Rangers
Slavia Praha or Leicester
Salzburg or Villarreal
Braga or Roma
Krasnodar or Dinamo Zagreb
Young Boys or Leverkusen
Molde or Hoffenheim
Granada or Napoli
Maccabi Tel-Aviv or Shakhtar Donetsk
LOSC Lille or Ajax
Olympiacos or PSV Eindhoven
When will the Round of 16 be played?
The Round of 16 first leg ties will take place on March 11 while second leg fixtures will be played on March 18.
Games will be split between 6.55pm and 8pm, both UK time.
