Arsenal have set their eyes on Emerson Royal as a replacement for Hector Bellerin if the Spaniard is to move on from the club this summer.
Bellerin has long been linked with a move back to Spain to sign for his childhood club Barcelona while Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in signing the 26-year-old.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta convinced the defender to remain at the Emirates Stadium last summer but it seems as if Bellerin is likely to ignore any such requests this coming transfer window.
With Cedric Soares failing to convince as a long-term solution to the problem position and Ainsley Maitland-Niles deemed surplus to requirements and loaned out to West Bromwich Albion, Arteta is bound to be in the market for a specialised right-back this summer.
The latest player to be linked with joining Arsenal is Brazilian defender Emerson Royal.
Who is Emerson Royal
Emerson Royal is a 22-year-old right-back who plays for Real Betis in La Liga and has been with the club since joining in 2019 from Atletico Mineiro.
The deal to bring him from Brazil to Spain was a joint transfer between Betis and Barcelona where both clubs agree to pay £5.1million each.
Barcelona are due to reimburse Betis their half plus an extra £2.5m for Emerson to move to the Camp Nou this summer. According to reports in Mundo Deportivo, the Gunners have been closely monitoring Emerson and want to seal a deal with Barcelona for the right-back to move to the Emirates Stadium instead of the Camp Nou.
Career to date
Emerson has made 69 appearances for Betis since his arrival and has shown himself to be an attacking full-back netting five times and providing ten assists in that time.
His form at Betis has impressed Brazilian national team manager Tite who called Emerson up as a 20-year-old and handed him his so far only international cap during a 3-0 win over South Korea.
As a Brazilian youth-team international Emerson was part of the 2019 Toulon Tournament winning side as his countries first-choice right-back throughout the tournament.
Dani Alves comparisons
His pace and attacking threat up the right flank as well as his defensive work rate have seen him compared to legendary former Brazil and Barcelona full-back Dani Alves.

How much will he cost?
Arsenal are not the only club rumoured to be interested in the highly-rated youngster with Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain thought to be preparing a £21.5million move for the Brazilian international.
Emerson’s ownership situation is complicated but it is believed that if either Arsenal or PSG want to sign the promising defender a deal with all parties can be figured out between now and the end of the summer transfer window.
