Muhsin Bayrak has emerged as the latest candidate to complete a takeover of Chelsea following Roman Abramovich’s decision to sell.

The Russian announced his intentions to cash-in on the west London club after a near 20-year ownership of the club.

Since his official statement, a number of potential successors have emerged over the last few days, the most recent being Turkish businessman Muhsin Bayrak.

Of course, not many will have heard of the potential new Chelsea owner so football.london has taken a look at who he is and what he does ahead of any potential move for the Premier League side.

Who is Muhsin Bayrak?

Muhsin Bayrak is a businessman who is from Turkey, and currently based in Istanbul.

He is originally from Bitlis and is apparently the leader of the Mutki Tribe – one of the largest families in the entire country.

What does he do?

Bayrak is currently chairman of the board of AB Group Holding, a company based in his home country of Turkey.

The business are involved in a number of different industries including cryptocurrency, construction, tourism and energy sectors.

Some reports have suggested that Bayrak’s net worth sits at $11billion (£8.3billion), although that is not verified by Forbes. Should that be true, then that would take his riches close to that of current owner Abramovich.

What has he said about Chelsea takeover?

Whilst little is known about the Turkish businessman, he has suggested that he is already well on the way to sealing a deal for the Blues in the immediate future.

Speaking in an interview with Turkish outlet Yeni Safak, he said: “We are negotiating the terms of the purchase of Chelsea with Roman Abramovich’s lawyers.

“We are in the negotiation phase for the signatures. We will fly the Turkish flag in London soon. We made our offer. Because of the war with Russia and Ukraine in the world. Because they find Turkey safe, they want to get most of the after-sales money in Turkey.

“We are planning to sign soon.”
