Arsenal’s Under-18s have cruised into the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup with a comfortable 4-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park this afternoon.
However, Rovers threatened a comeback just one minute into the start of the second half when Australian striker Zak Gilsenan made it 1-3.
In the end, though, his goal did not threaten Arsenal too much as they wrapped up the win once and for all in the closing stages, making it 4-1 through right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy in the 90th minute, ensuring the Gunners progressed to the next round of the competition.
While it was a fantastic performance and result for Arsenal’s youngsters, it was also an afternoon to remember for midfielder Azeez.
The 18-year-old, who has played 12 times in the Premier League 2 this season for the Under-23s, netted a stunning strike to put the Gunners 3-0 up shortly before half time.
The central-midfielder, who has often trained with Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad this season, picked the ball up around 25 yards from goal, took a touch to open his body up and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top right-hand corner, leaving the Rovers goalkeeper with no chance.
It was a sublime strike from the youngster, once again providing proof as to why he is so highly thought of at the Emirates Stadium.
Unsurprisingly, his stunning hit at the Ewood Park this afternoon soon got Arsenal fans on social media talking, with plenty of Gunners fans heaping praise on Azeez’s shoulders and tipping him to enjoy a long and successful career.
Below, football.london has taken a close look at what some Gunners fans have had to say…
From the messages posted above it is clear that numerous Arsenal fans have high hopes for Azeez to soon make his mark in the first-team squad and blossom into a player capable of regularly featuring under Arteta.
Azeez is contracted to the Gunners until the end of next season, meaning next term could be an opportunity for Arteta to involve him into the first-team fold before the club makes a decision on his long-term future.
But if his goal against Blackburn is anything to go by, it is clear that he has a very long and successful career lying in wait, although, of course, it is important to caveat that with the fact that he is still only 18 and has a lot of hard work ahead of him still.
