Willian sums up Arsenal’s season by equalling Emile Smith Rowe record vs Leicester City

Arsenal secured their finest Premier League victory since the Boxing Day triumph against Chelsea by coming from behind to see off Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes quickly took the lead after Youri Tielemans capitalised on some poor defending but Mikel Arteta’s side responded before the break with David Luiz’s header and Alexandre Lacazette’s penalty.

After the restart, Nicolas Pepe tucked home from close range to secure all three points and providing a timely boost ahead of the upcoming games.

There was plenty to take from the performance but one particular stand-out was the contributions of Willian, who has largely struggled since moving across London for free last summer from Chelsea.

Willian had not registered an assist in the Premier League since two on the opening weekend against Fulham but was handed a start at the King Power Stadium, having assisted Kieran Tierney’s goal on Thursday against Benfica in the Europa League.

The experienced Brazil international successfully built upon that display, crossing for Luiz’s equaliser before threading the eye of the needle in the Leicester defence to set-up Pepe’s easy finish.

With those contributions, Willian has taken his tally of Premier League assists this season to four which, remarkably, is enough to put him joint-top of Arsenal‘s assist charts in the league.

Emile Smith Rowe also has four assists in the Premier League this season, following a sublime run of form since getting his opportunity at the back end of last year.

His assists have come in four separate matches this season against Chelsea, West Brom, Newcastle United and Leeds, while Willian’s have come in just two matches.

Arteta and Arsenal fans will hope that Willian’s recent displays are indications of a resurgence at the club, which would provide a timely boost.
