‘World class’ – Tottenham fans in frenzy after Harry Kane breaks England record

Harry Kane has now scored the most goals in competitive fixtures for England.

Tottenham striker Kane has come under criticism this season after some poor domestic performances.

He’s found the net just once in the Premier League, a return that has led people to believe that he may still be distracted by the fact he failed to secure a summer move to Manchester City.

Nevertheless, he thinks he dealt with the rumours about his future well and admitted that his bad form could’ve been down to fatigue from England’s devastating Euro 2020 final loss.

“It was tough in terms of that loss,” he said ahead of England’s World Cup Qualifier against Albania at Wembley.

“Losing a European final for your country at Wembley, that will stay with me for the rest of my career. You never really get over those things. Hopefully we go and win some major tournaments. That always stings but I’m pretty used to it now, I’m pretty used to going back into things.

“There was a lot of talk, a lot of speculation over the summer – the first real time that probably happened to me in my career – but that’s part and parcel of learning, part and parcel of being a big player, having to deal with those situations and I think I dealt with it well.”

Nevertheless, Kane has found his goalscoring feet with his national team.

The 28-year-old’s first-half hat-trick against Albania means that he now has 39 goals in competitive games for his country, which is more than any other player before him.

He’s also taken his total tally of Three Lions goals to 44, a number that means he’s level with the late, great, Chelsea, Spurs and West Ham legend Jimmy Greaves.

Although England’s skipper was taken off in the 63rd minute, Gareth Southgate’s side rushed to a 5-0 first-half lead, with Kane scoring the perfect hat-trick along the way – including an amazing close range scissor-kick just before half-time.

And his performance earned him high praise from Spurs fans.

Kane could well be rested against San Marino in the week but he’ll be looking to take his international goalscoring form back with him to Tottenham, where he can continue the club’s journey under new Spurs boss Antonio Conte.
