Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 10-word verdict on Alexander Isak amid Arsenal and Chelsea transfer links

Sweden international Alexander Isak has been one of the most-talked about players at this summer’s rearranged European Championship so far after showing off his talents in his country’s opening game.

Up against two-time European Championship winners Spain in their opening game of the tournament, Sweden were given little chance against Luis Enrique’s side, but they produced an excellent performance to claim a goalless draw, setting them up nicely for the remainder of the tournament.

The Swede’s, who have since beaten Slovakia 1-0, set up very defensively against Spain, looking to contain their attacking prowess before launching counter-attacks, primarily through Isak’s pace.

His performance against Spain, although it did not feature a goal, earned rave reviews by pundits and supporters alike.

Some of the biggest praise that the 21-year-old earned came from BBC Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, who took to Twitter to rave about his potential.

Lineker said: “Don’t think there’s much doubt that Alexander Isak will attract a lot of attention from clubs across Europe. Exceptional talent.”

Attention is exactly what Isak has at this moment in time.

Prior to the tournament getting under way just over a week ago, The Athletic, as cited by the Boot Room, credited Arsenal with interest in the Real Sociedad goal-getter. It was reported that if a striker was to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer, then Isak is the man that the Gunners would turn to as a replacement.

Now, following his two outings at Euro 2020 so far, Chelsea, according a report by the Metro, are keeping a watchful eye on his progress, with it being claimed that they are considering a move for the talented youngster over Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland.

Although Isak is valued at around £60million, it is still considerably cheaper than Haaland’s current valuation of around £150million.

But with Isak showing great levels of promise and potential, it does raise questions as to whether or not Chelsea would be best entering a transfer battle with Arsenal for Isak’s signature, ending their pursuit of Haaland in the process.

If Sweden legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s verdict is anything to go by, both clubs will be doing all they can this summer to convince Isak to swap Spain for England.

That is because the AC Milan striker, back in 2016, when Isak was only 17-years-old, waxed lyrical about the former Borussia Dortmund star’s potential.

Issuing a ten-word verdict on his talents, Ibrahimovic said: “I have seen him in action and he is fantastic.”

With Ibrahimovic, who is one of the greatest players of all-time, delivering a statement like that on a player of such a young age speaks volumes about the potential he has within his locker.

In truth, though, Isak will have improved even further since Ibrahimovic made that admission about his fellow countryman, offering food for thought to both Mikel Arteta and Thomas Tuchel about their summer transfer plans.

The summer window is officially open, and it’s going to be tough to keep up with the comings and goings in and out of the Emirates.

Ibrahimovic, of course, is more than qualified enough to make a judgment on a good player when he sees one, meaning the Swede is acutely aware of just how good a player is when he sees one.

The 2020/21 campaign proved to be a hugely successful one for Isak as he scored 17 goals in 34 La Liga appearances.

Scoring that number of goals in a top-flight season at just 21 provides proof of just how talented Isak is, as well as just how much better he could get in the future.
