Jorginho makes honest Thomas Tuchel claim and aims dig at Chelsea legend

Chelsea have been excellent this season and opened up a three point gap at the top of the Premier League after beating Newcastle 3-0 at St James’ Park on Saturday.

Reece James scored twice in the second half and Jorginho sealed the three points with a penalty after Magpies goalkeeper Karl Darlow brought down Kai Havertz.

Jorginho produced a flawless display against the Magpies and revealed that Thomas Tuchel has made the Blues a more ruthless outfit since he took the reins at Stamford Bridge.

“We need to try to win every single game and not drop points in these kind of games,” the Italy international admitted after the Blues secured their fourth Premier League victory in a row.

“Maybe we missed that in the last two or three years.”

The mentality fostered by Tuchel since he arrived at the club helped the Blues win the Champions League last season, just four months after he replaced former boss Frank Lampard.

The German has also re-established Chelsea as genuine title contenders this term, with the Blues winning eight of their 10 Premier League games.

A cornerstone of their success is the formidable defence Tuchel has constructed; his back three have conceded just three goals in the league this campaign and only Liverpool have scored more than their tally of 26 in the top flight this season.

Jorginho insists that part of their success is simply thinking only about themselves and not the efforts of their title rivals.

He added: “It feels good that we won [against Newcastle] because we need to look at ourselves and not have a focus on the other teams.

“We have a focus just on us, what we have to do and what we are doing because if we keep working like this, keep pushing and putting the group first then we can have the results we want.

“Then we will see at the end of the season what can happen.”

Next up for Chelsea is a trip to Malmo for a Champions League clash on Tuesday. The Blues comprehensively beat the Swedish side 4-0 at Stamford Bridge two weeks ago.
