Raphael Varane’s message amid Chelsea links with talks already underway for £40m summer transfer

Raphael Varane has already revealed his stance on his Real Madrid future amid talk of a summer transfer to Chelsea.

Despite Sergio Ramos leaving Los Blancos when his contract expires next week, there’s a chance that the Frenchman – who is in the final 12 months of his deal at the Santiago Bernabeu – could also leave this summer and that has put the Blues on alert.

Although, Chelsea will face competition for Varane from Premier League rivals Manchester United.

As per our sister site the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils have already opened exploratory talks with the Frenchman’s representatives as he considers his future at Real Madrid.

With that said, Varane has already insisted that he’s focused on helping France win Euro 2020.

“This is not the time to talk about my future, I am focused on the selection, on this Euro, it is normal and logical to ask the question and for my part it is normal and logical to focus on the upcoming deadlines,” Varane said back in May.

“We are all human beings. We can think about it.

“As for my personal case, I am focused on the objectives that we have in the France team, it is not a subject that I will discuss every day in my room at Clairefontaine.

“I am focused on my goal, and now is not the time to discuss it. If I have to talk about it, it will be directly with the people concerned.”

The summer window is officially open and now the Blues can look to build on European glory and bolster the squad to push for Premier League supremacy.

Following Varane’s comments, his price tag has now been revealed.

As per The Athletic, whilst Real Madrid are keen to keep Varane, they will not allow him to run his deal down in order to leave for free next summer, so will reluctantly agree a deal worth between £40m-£45m for the defender.

Despite extending Thiago Silva’s contract by a further 12 months, the Blues are still being tipped to sign a new centre-back and £40m for Varane could be a bargain.
